Call for noise demo in DC this Thursday at 7:30 PM against indoor detention.

Come out to make noise, show love for individuals confined in DC Jails, and tell the DOC/DC Council to stop 24/7 indoor detention this Thursday (2/14) from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. #RestoreRecAtCTF #RestoreRecAtCDF

Noise demos have been used for decades outside of jails and prisons to momentarily disrupt the alienation and isolation the State creates behind bars. They are both a show of solidarity for incarcerated individuals and a wake up call for oppressive institutions. We are paying attention.

This demo is partially intended to reduce harm, but the hosts ultimately believe in prison abolition. Stop caging and torturing black and brown people!

To Bring:

-Drumsticks & pans
-Banners & Signs
-Your sweetie and/or friends
-Anything else that makes noise or light!

For a world that prioritizes rehabilitation and care, over punishment and torture.
Until all are free!

More Info:

URGENT ACTION AND AMPLIFICATION NEEDED FOR Incarcerated DC residents at Central Treatment Facility (CTF) and Central Detention Facility (CDF, DC Jail). They have been saying they have had absolutely no opportunity to get fresh air (no outside recreation) for at least the past 8 months.

They have been denied any access to outdoor recreation, despite repeated requests, and given no reason for the denial. Some have even said this has been going since January 2018. Individuals are being forced to breathe in moldy air 24/7.

We implore DOC to give these men and women at least 1-2 hours of fresh air a week! This is arguably an 8th amendment violation.

In 1994, there was a case where the court required DOC to provide outside and indoor recreation to all female residents (Women Prisoners v. District of Columbia, 877 F. Supp. 634 [DDC 1994])
